In Matthew 12: 31, 32 JESUS said, “And so I tell you, every sin and
blasphemy will be forgiven men, but the blasphemy against the SPIRIT will
not be forgiven.”
Firstly, we need to understand who the HOLY SPIRIT is. The HOLY
SPIRIT is the SPIRIT of GOD, who is transforming hearts in all parts of our world
today (John 16:5-15). Just as CHRIST brought His grace and truth to the people
in the nation of Israel two thousand years ago, so His SPIRIT is spreading the
grace and truth of CHRIST JESUS to people in all nations of our world today.
GOD’S SPIRIT, like the wind, is blowing to the ends of the earth. He is
convicting people of sin, and righteousness and judgement to come. He testifies
to CHRIST and to forgiveness of sin and eternal life in His Name. Today, every
day is like the day of Pentecost as GOD’S HOLY SPIRIT brings thousands of
people from every nation and language into His Kingdom family through the
message of CHRIST’S death and resurrection.
To blaspheme the HOLY SPIRIT is to blaspheme GOD. Blasphemy
involves words and actions that completely reject the SPIRIT’S work and/or when
a person claims to be GOD. JESUS was accused and sentenced to death for
blasphemy against GOD because He claimed to be GOD’S SON, and therefore
equal with GOD (John 5:18). JESUS was and is GOD’S SON and so His claim
is true, but anyone else, such as the ultimate antichrist to come, who claims to be
GOD, will be committing the unforgivable sin. Likewise, any individual who
completely rejects the SPIRIT’S testimony to JESUS as SAVIOR and LORD, for
as long as they live, is blaspheming GOD by calling Him a liar (1 John 5:6-12).
The HOLY SPIRIT tells us clearly in the Bible that a person can only be
forgiven for their sin and receive the gift of eternal life by faith in JESUS CHRIST,
GOD’S SON. No one can become a Christian, a believer in JESUS, apart from
the work of GOD’S HOLY SPIRIT. Everyone who does not accept the testimony
of the HOLY SPIRIT to GOD’S salvation through JESUS is calling the HOLY
SPIRIT a liar. Those who reject CHRIST’S sacrifice for their sin and the
resurrection hope, that only JESUS can give, have no way of being saved for
eternal life. Their sin and guilt which will all be revealed on the Day of Judgement
will condemn them.
It is written in Hebrews 3:7,8,12: “So, as the HOLY SPIRIT says:
‘Today, if you hear His voice, do not harden your hearts….See to it that
none of you has a sinful unbelieving heart that turns away from the living
GOD.” Repent and believe in JESUS, GOD’S SON, and humanities only
SAVIOR and you will be saved. Make it so!
