People often rhetorically ask: “Can you prove that GOD exists?” Usually, they are thinking about a scientific proof of somehow capturing GOD and putting Him through a series of tests, as if He were a malignant tumor or a soil sample. As many others have noted, if we could do that, He wouldn’t be GOD. The proof, of course, “is in the pudding”.
There are googolplexes of reasons to believe in GOD and to reject the evolutionary story. A googol is 10 to the 100th power, a number larger than the number of known atoms in the universe. A googolplex is 10 to the googolth power, an incomprehensible figure, a mathematical representation of infinity. Our incredible world and universe are literally filled with a googolplex of realities that defy evolution and testify to the eternal GOD of creation.
It is proclaimed by the HOLY SPIRIT:
“The heavens declare the glory of GOD; the skies proclaim the work of His hands. Day after day they pour forth speech; night after night they display knowledge. There is no speech or language where their voice is not heard. Their voice goes out to all the earth, their words to the ends of the world.” (Psalm 19:1-4)
We live in the most fascinating and unimaginable universe and planet that defies complete human comprehension. Our ancestors could never, in their wildest dreams, have conceived of the spectacular reality in which we live. Neither can we, even as we begin to catch a glimpse of the majesty of what is. There is so much to learn and everything we learn increases the awe. There are not just the Seven Wonders of the World but a googolplex of miraculous features and creatures. Our Father in Heaven has immersed us in a myriad of incredible interrelated intricacies from the cosmos to the atom to keep us on our toes, and on our knees. I will boast of what my FATHER in Heaven has done.
Like the people of JESUS’ day, including the Pharisees and King Herod, many individuals today say, “show me a miracle and then I will believe and worship”. What is a miracle? A miracle is something which is outside the realms of human ability and beyond the presently known laws of the universe; something which is impossible for humans, is possible with GOD (JESUS definition: Luke 18:27). Our universe, world and everything in it are absolutely miraculous. The universe itself is beyond the presently known laws in the universe. It has been conceived and materialized by a mind and power and will beyond our comprehension and outside of the material universe. The zeal of the LORD Almighty has accomplished it. Humility and worship are good places for us to start.
From the beginning of time the heavens – the universe – the cosmos – the sky – the firmament – the expanse – has been a miraculous sign testifying to the amazing power and intelligence of GOD. While many have been deceived into worshiping false gods of the cosmos, like the sun or planets, many others in every part of the world have lifted their eyes to the heavens and called out to the living GOD who made it all.
Today, the cosmos is not only singing the glory of GOD but is screaming it out for everyone, especially the hard of hearing. Nevertheless, there has been a strong current flowing through secular science into mainstream culture that believes, and doesn’t hesitate to proclaim, that new scientific theories on the cosmos invalidate the ancient belief that GOD created the universe. Nothing could be further from the truth. While there are those who seek to force the new theories on the formation of the universe to fit into a strictly materialistic mold, their theories and mold fall far short of the realities the expanse reveals.
The evidence from the heavens is causing many in the scientific community to shake their heads in bewilderment at the amazing mathematical preciseness the universe is communicating to us.
Fred Hoyle, former astrophysicist: “A common sense interpretation of the facts suggests that a super intellect has monkeyed with physics, as well as with chemistry and biology, and that there are no blind forces worth speaking about in nature. The numbers one calculates from the facts seem to me so overwhelming as to put this conclusion almost beyond question.” (Fred Hoyle, “The Universe: Past and Present Reflections”, Engineering and Science, November 1981)
John O’Keefe, astronomer at NASA: “We are, by astronomical standards, a pampered, cosseted, cherished group of creatures… If the Universe had not been made with the most exacting precision we could never have come into existence. It is my view that these circumstances indicate the universe was created for man to live in.” (John O’Keefe, quoted in Heeren, F. 1995, Show Me GOD, Wheeling, Il, Searchlight Publications)
Dr. Gerald Schroeder, a nuclear physicist, shares this quote from Dr. Michael Turner, a cosmologist, who describes the fine-tuning of the cosmos in this way, “The precision is as if one could throw a dart across the entire universe and hit a bulls eye one millimeter in diameter on the other side.” (Michael Turner, quoted by Dr. Gerald Schroeder, “The Fine Tuning of the Universe”)
From the vastness of the cosmos, we redirect our eyes and minds to focus on the microscopic miracles that surround and embody us. Prior to our generation, no human being could have even remotely imagined the miniature world of the cell. As we enter the microscopic realm of life, we find ourselves in an even more magnificent universe than the one above us. The cell is a marvel of miniature design on a level far exceeding our present human capabilities. While the cosmos chorus declares the glory of GOD, the cell magnifies His praise sevenfold.
Molecular biologist Dr. Michael Denton, who is a non-Christian skeptic of Darwinian evolution, wrote in his book Evolution: A Theory in Crisis:
“Perhaps in no other area of modern biology is the challenge posed by the extreme complexity and ingenuity of biological adaptations more apparent than in the fascinating new molecular world of the cell…To grasp the reality of life at it has been revealed by molecular biology, we must magnify a cell a thousand million times until it is twenty kilometers in diameter and resembles a giant airship large enough to cover a great city like London or New York. What we would then see would be an object of unparalleled complexity and adaptive design. On the surface of the cell we would see millions of openings, like port holes of a vast spaceship opening and closing to allow a continual stream of materials to flow in and out. If we were to enter one of these openings we would find ourselves in a world of supreme technology and bewildering complexity. Is it really credible that random processes could have constructed a reality, the smallest element of which – a functional protein or gene—is complex beyond our own creative capacities, a reality which is the very antithesis of chance, which excels in every sense anything produced by the intelligence of man? Alongside the level of ingenuity and complexity exhibited by the molecular machinery of life, even our most advanced artefacts appear clumsy.” (Michael Denton, Evolution: A Theory in Crisis, 1986).
Did you notice when Dr. Denton wrote that, in the ancient year of 1986. The irreducible complexity of the cell has been magnified thousands of times since then. In comparison to a single cell, all the technological achievements over the past 40 years are just little toys for tots or play stations for boys and girls. A piece of humble pie, anyone? However, the reality of our human bodies are even more awesome than a single cell like spaceship. The scientific guestimate today is that the average adult human body has approximately 30- 40 trillion cells. Each of us has 30-40 trillion incredibly complex spaceship like cells which are divided into about 200 different types with a unique function and all operating harmoniously together in order for our bodies to be alive and be blessed by GOD.
Now this is just the miracle of human life, but every other kind of life form on our planet is similarly complex and unique. Anyone who believes that our universe, human beings and all life forms on our planet are the result of a few billion years of chance processes is a secular fundamentalist with a fatal antigod complex in need of a heart, mind and spirit rebirth. Of course this is humanly impossible to do, but it is what the LORD our GOD does for everyone who turns to him in humble confession of our sin and unbelief and places their faith in JESUS CHRIST, our Creator, Savior and Helper.
It is right and good for all of us to join the heavenly chorus praising and glorifying GOD saying, singing and shouting: “You are worthy, our LORD and GOD, to receive glory and honor and power, for You created all things, and by Your will they were created and have their being.” (Revelation 4:11).
Amen, come LORD JESUS.
