Ecclesiastes 1:9 says “there is nothing new under the sun.” The practice of
trying to communicate with the dead has been going on since Old Testament times. The
LORD speaking through Moses issued this unmistakable warning concerning
communicating with the dead, and other occult practices:
“When you enter the land the LORD your GOD is giving you, do not learn to
imitate the detestable ways of the nations there. Let no one be found among you
who sacrifices his son or daughter in the fire, who practices divination or sorcery,
interprets omens, engages in witchcraft, or casts spells, or who is a medium or
spiritist or who consults the dead.” (Deuteronomy 18:9-11)
A hundred years ago most people laughed and scoffed at occult practices like
consulting the dead. Today, however, many believe and practice these different forms of
the occult in their attempt to understand and control their life and circumstances. Either
out of foolish ignorance and curiosity, or self-righteous anger and rebellion against GOD,
many are being sucked into the black hole of the occult.
A few years ago in Canada, our government sponsored woke radio station,
“Mother Corp”, the CBC, on its Saturday afternoon youth targeted program did a
masterful work of portraying witchcraft and other “new age” practices (rather, ancient
actually), as sweet and progressive. In our new age many are taught that the devil and the
demonic forces are mythical, and that we can partake of the “forbidden fruit” of the
occult as a path to enlightenment and god-hood (Genesis 3). The deception continues for
a little longer.
What most people do not understand is that when they get involved in occult
practices such as communicating with the dead, they are in, way, way over their heads.
They are inter-connecting with evil spiritual beings that will manipulate, use, enslave,
and destroy them. As JESUS taught, Satan is a liar and a murderer (John 8:44). People
are free to engage in many evil and dangerous activities but GOD has issued loud and
clear warnings in His Word against all evil and foolish actions, including trying to
communicate with the dead.
What happens to those who do get involved with this or other occult practices?
Many die in the “black hole” of the occult. Others are saved through faith in the power of
the love and truth of CHRIST testified by His HOLY SPIRIT and His Bride, the faithful
congregation. Many individuals have incredible stories to tell of how the LORD saved
them out of their slavery to the occult.
Occult practices lead a person to the place of the dead. JESUS brings forgiveness,
life, hope, and eternal salvation to all who come to Him. Why contact the dead when you
can get talk with the living GOD through His Son JESUS CHRIST. He is the only one
who can save us!
